Tech Curriculum Pathways

The tech discipline has unique challenges and opportunities. On the one hand, we have no graduation requirement (in US) so we don’t have a great way to capture all students, on the other, we have a lot of family, and societal pressure to take our courses.

With our small slice of the curriculum (which is many offerings but few sections), we want to serve as many student profiles as possible. We might have students who want to dive deep in machine learning and others who just want to know how programs work since so much of their lives interact with software. How do we accommodate all of those folks through a modest program?

The most interested students tend to find their footing in independent curriculum offerings and after-school academic teams. Within our course structure, we have developed an system where student interests can dictate the types of courses we offer.

This has been many years in the making and I’m quite pleased with how it has turned out. There are, of course, many other domains we could explore (such as CAD design) but given our current real estate in the EPS course catalog, this set of courses is well-tuned to both student interests and the goals of EPS.
